Once again, Windows users are the willing victims of a security hole with an OS built around it.
How many times, dear lord, must somebody's hard drive be trashed, must corporate networks come down, must Internet traffic get clogged to a near standstill, before people stop being such total suckers?
And despite all the inexcusable lapses of security in the Windows code, despite the contempt Microsoft has for its customers, despite the ludicrous licensing scenario now forced upon Windows users, people still sneer at the Mac, and call it an "expensive toy for zealots, hippies, and elitists."
Heck, the U.S. military at least wised up and put their websites on Mac servers. You think maybe they still have a grudge from when an "automated warship," running on Windows NT, was left totally dead in the water just because some key puncher typed in a zero? I don't know. Nobody else seems to care when they buy into the Microsoft monopoly and get screwed by their Redmond masters.
So, just why are people so forgiving of Microsoft? Why do so many companies, whose bottom lines are affected by downtime, loss of data, and breach of security, keep going back to Mr. Gates for their OS needs when much more attractive options are available these days?
One of these days, the excrement really is going to smack the rotors. One big company is all it might take. If Amazon announces they are switching their servers onto the Mac platform, for security, stability and cost, expect to see the dominoes start to wobble. All it takes to topple a tyrant is one loud, confident and influential voice to get the mobs to join the revolt.
All that is needed to get huge waves of migration from the Windows world is a company that is willing to take a risk, and is willing to innovate.
In other words, all we need is another Apple Computer.
Well the thousand mile journey starts here, I suppose. But that first step is a doozy.
